NEW DELHI: University of Delhi vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh today said that the classes for first-year undergraduate (UG) students are likely to begin from August 16. The DU admission has been delayed as the CUET results 2024, the national-level entrance exam for UG admission, are yet to be declared, the vice-chancellor said.

"The CUET result has not been announced, but it will impact the academic calendar for the students for the first semester in courses where admission is through CUET-UG. The semester will likely start on August 16. For other semesters, we will start the semester on August 1," DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh told ANI.

DU teachers have also raised the issue of delay in admission which has disrupted the academic calendar for the past three years. In 2022, the university adopted CUET UG exam for offering admission to undergraduate programmes, scrapping its own admission policy.

When asked about the expected CUET result date 2024, the vice-chancellor said that the university did not receive any communication regarding the results from the NTA.

Yesterday, the Delhi University’s elected academic council members, Mithuraaj Dhusiya and Monami Basu, raised issues on the Common University Entrance Test and said the university should opt out of CUET. In a letter to vice-chancellor, the teachers also expressed their concerns about the credibility of NTA owing to the recent incidents of NEET and UGC NET paper leak.

Faculty members have also been demanding the university to announce the academic calendar for first-year UG students. Rudrashish Chakraborty, associate professor at Kirori Mal College said despite CUET being conducted early last year, the academic calendar began on August 16. As per the latest update, this year too, the university is expected to commence the classes for freshers on August 16.
