NEW DELHI: No fee hike, 12-day menstrual leave per semester and 24X7 access to libraries are some of the key issues that the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has included in its manifesto for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election.

The NSUI, the Congress’ student wing, released today the manifesto, in which they promised more hostel accommodation and “freedom to the students from the goonda raj of the ABVP”.

The NSUI announced candidates for DUSU polls yesterday. Hitesh Gulia will contest for the post of president while Abhi Dahiya is candidate for the post of vice-president. Yakshna Sharma and Shubham Kumar will be vying for the post of secretary and joint secretary.

NSUI president Neeraj Kundan said, “We want to make Delhi University the best institute in the country. Keeping this as an objective, we have prepared our manifesto. Priority has been given to infrastructure and active placement cells.”

He added that working on the commitment of ‘judega vidyarthi, jeetega India’, the NSUI will also provide free metro passes to all students, a reduction in mandatory fees and 24X7 railway reservation counter facilities in all colleges.

The DUSU election will be held on September 22 after a gap of four years. A total of 24 candidates are in the fray for the DUSU poll, as per the data provided by university officials on Friday. The university said the chief election officer had received 97 nomination papers, of which two were rejected during scrutiny. Of the 95 approved nominations, 24 candidates are left after the withdrawals. Friday was the last date for withdrawal of nominations.
