NEW Delhi: The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) in a letter have demanded the DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) to withdraw the decision of conducting a written examination for assistant professors.

It said the process has been mentioned in the advertisement issued for the selection of assistant professors in DU’s faculty of technology.

The letter read there is no provision for written tests for the selection of assistant professors in the screening scheme approved by DU executive council. “But the shortlisted candidates in faculty of technology have to appear in written tests as per the university notification dated August 25,” it read.

The association demanded to amend the notification in accordance with the EC approved screening scheme and to annul the written tests.

“Thousands of ad-hoc teachers have been working for several years in DU and many of them have been displaced due to the ongoing interviews. Now, subjecting them to written tests and such new parameters of screening may lead to denial of opportunity to appear in the interviews,” the association said.

The examination will not serve any purpose as candidates have already cleared the NET-GATE, it said adding, “The new process will be merely duplication in the evaluation scheme for the teaching jobs in higher education.”

They also demanded to continue with appointment process with absorption of ad-hoc and temporary teachers and reinstate those who have been displaced during the last two years.
