Education ministry lauds Ladakh for setting new benchmark in Performance Grading Index

NEW DELHI: The ministry of education (MoE) lauded Ladakh for setting new benchmark in the Performance Grading Index, the annual evaluation of school education. According to the PGI 2020-21, no state has been able to attain the highest level of L1 so far.

The newly formed Union Territory, Ladakh has made significant improvement in PGI from Level 8 to Level 4 in 2020-21 or improved its score by 299 points in 2020-21 as compared to 2019-20. Recording the highest ever improvement in a single year, Ladakh scored 844 in 2020-21.

“Kudos to Ladakh for setting new benchmarks in education as it attains Level IV with a score of 844 in the Performance Grading Index 2020-21. India’s youngest Union Territory is emerging as ‘one of the most promising’ UTs. Congratulations!,” the ministry said.

As per the comprehensive analysis, seven states and UTs received L2. Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Gujarat were the top best performers.

The PGI structure comprises 1,000 points across 70 indicators grouped into two categories namely, Outcomes, Governance Management (GM). These categories are further divided into five domains -- Learning Outcomes (LO), Access (A), Infrastructure & Facilities (IF), Equity (E) and Governance Process (GP).
