ABC Scheme: Over 7 crore academic records have been mapped with the APAAR IDs, the education ministry said in Rajya Sabha.
According to the data shared by the education ministry in the Rajya Sabha, more than 6 crore APAAR IDs have been generated so far across over 2,600 institutions on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) portal. Additionally, over 7 crore academic records have been mapped with the APAAR IDs.
Under the ABC scheme , a 12-digit ID has been assigned to every student to facilitate seamless interaction among stakeholders in the education ecosystem.
This unique 12-digit identifier, known as the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR ID) , is designed to accumulate academic and skill credits earned throughout a student’s educational journey.
UGC’s SOP for 50% of credit requirement
Furthermore, to facilitate the creditisation of all learning, the National Credit Framework (NCrF) has been launched by the education ministry. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has developed an SOP for the operationalisation of the NCrF, which allows up to 50% of the total credit requirement for a programme through skill-based courses.
To operationalise NCrF and to ensure secure recording of credits, the government has launched the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) scheme. ABC uses the digital infrastructure of DigiLocker and the National Academic Depository (NAD) to provide a secure platform for storing educational documents.
