NEW DELHI: The English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) is set to establish a new campus in the village of Chakoli, Sarojininagar, as confirmed by Rajeshwar Singh, MLA of Sarojininagar, Lucknow. This announcement follows the Uttar Pradesh state cabinet's recent approval, which includes the allocation of 2.3239 hectares of government land designated for the university project.
The process began on March 10, 2023, when Singh formally proposed the allocation of land in Chakoli for EFLU’s new branch. In a letter to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Singh highlighted the availability of adequate government land in Sarojininagar suitable for the establishment of a university.
Following the initial proposal, Singh continued to advocate for the project. On July 2, 2024, he submitted a second letter to the CM, urging that the cabinet expedite its approval for land allocation. In this letter, Singh detailed the land available in Chakoli, specifically plots 359 and 360, which cover a total area of 2.323 hectares.
The project was finally given the green light by the state cabinet in November 2024. Singh posted on social media, expressing his gratitude to CM Yogi Adityanath and congratulating the residents of Sarojininagar on this achievement. In his X post, Singh detailed the university's offerings, which include high-quality education in English and foreign languages, strong placement opportunities, advanced research capabilities, and community engagement.
According to a report from the Times of India, the new Lucknow campus is expected to accommodate nearly 2,000 students. Initially, the land will be officially registered under the Higher Education Department. Following this step, it will be leased to EFLU for the purpose of campus development and further expansion.
He emphasized that the new campus would enhance employment opportunities through EFLU’s strong placement record, and enable innovative teaching and research in linguistics and literature. The university also offers international exposure through exchange programmes and collaborations, he said.
