Egyptian scientist to pursue research in maize at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University

Mohammad Ismail is among seven Egyptian scientists who were awarded the CV Raman International Fellowship for the academic year 2023-24.

NEW DELHI: Egyptian scientist Mohammad Ismail has been awarded CV Raman International Fellowship for the year 2023-24 to pursue research in biotechnology at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU Coimbatore)

He works in the field of maize breeding at Field Crops Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center, Egypt. At TNAU he will carry out research under the guidance of N Senthil, dean of school of postgraduate studies, TNAU. Ismail will work on maize molecular breeding.

University vice-chancellor V Geethalakshmi felicitated Ismail and appreciated the scientist involved in availing this CV Raman International Fellowship for African researcher. She said more steps need to be taken by the other scientists to strengthen the collaboration between India and Africa. The CV Raman International Fellowship will strengthen the association between both the Institutes, she added.

Seven Egyptian scientists get fellowship

This year seven Egyptian scientists were awarded the CV Raman International Fellowship. Among the seven scientists only two scientists were given the award for pursuing research in agriculture sciences.

CV Raman International Fellowship for African Researchers is awarded by the department of science and technology (DST) and ministry of external affairs (MEA) through the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) under the India-Africa Forum Summit to promote human capacity building through scientific and technological cooperation between Africa and India.

This prestigious fellowship is aimed for strengthening the bond between India and African nations in the fields of science and technology. It provides opportunities for African researchers to conduct research under the guidance of a host scientist in India in order to advance their own research capabilities while fostering scientific and technological cooperation between Africa and India.
