NEW DELHI : The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has allowed the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination- FMGE 2020 aspirants to upload their provisional pass certificates in order to confirm their qualifying status in all the required courses of their primary medical qualification. Candidates must know that this has been made a one-time relaxation in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and is only applicable for FMGE June session only. As per the FMGE June session brochure, it is mandatory for each aspirant to upload their primary degree certificate issued on or before July 31, 2020, in order to appear in the FMGE examination.

Students Request Over Eligibility Claus
The decision to upload pass certificate instead of degree certificate was taken after students made several representations to the central government authorities including the Medical Council of India (MCI). Many aspirants pointed out that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the degree certificate has not been issued to them, as a result, they are considered ineligible to appear for the FMGE June session examination. Also, those aspirants who completed their course last year and have only provisional certificates with them, will not be able to give the exam. Considering this, the students raised concerns over losing a year in their studies.
Major Relief to the FMGE aspirants
As mentioned above, the Claus of degree certificate being mandatory to appear for the FMGE 2020 examination, could force candidates to lose a year. The decision made by NBE has indeed brought a big relief to the candidates. However, it is to be noted that this was only applicable for FMGE June session and is considered a one-time relaxation.
FMGE is conducted twice a year, in June and December for Foreign Medical Graduates to obtain a provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI) or any State Medical Council (SMCs) to practice in the country. FMGE 2020 for December session is scheduled to be held on August 31, 2020.
