‘From global rankings to Rs 1 crore job offers’: IIT Guwahati calls it a year of academic excellence
IIT Guwahati established the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute this year. It also received the highest international job offer of Rs 2.05 crore.

NEW DELHI : The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) director Rajeev Ahuja calls it a year of academic excellence for the institute with a record number of 11 students getting Rs 1 crore job offers and featuring in the top 25% of institutions globally. IIT Guwahati also established the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII) this year.
14 subjects offered by the institute have been ranked in the QS World University Rankings 2023 by subject. Petroleum engineering was at 51-100 worldwide and second in India. On April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Rs 546 crore for the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute.
It said that the AAHII aims to promote inventions and innovations in medicine and healthcare by fusing engineering with healthcare.
IIT Guwahati director Rajeev Ahuja said: “The institute is progressing very well in academic, research and technology development fronts and has been making consistent efforts to make a societal impact via various national and International initiatives. With the strong commitment of the faculty members and brilliant students, we hope to serve the society, grow through our research and innovation, and broaden our outreach even further in the coming years.”
IIT Guwahati: Top research findings
Here are the major research and development initiatives undertaken by the students and scholars of the institute.
IIT Guwahati and ISRO researchers detected X-ray polarization from a black hole source from outside our Milky Way Galaxy for the first time. Large Magellanic Cloud X-3 is a binary star system consisting of a black hole and a ‘normal’ star that is more massive than the Sun.
The researchers of the institute have also developed technology to efficiently utilise tea waste from the tea industry.
The research scholars have also created an affordable Glycemic Index (GI) sensor for point-of-care use aiding diabetes management through real-time assessment.

IIT Guwahati placements 2023
The students received 800 job offers, including 214 pre-placement offers (PPOs) in the IIT Guwahati phase 1 placements . A total of 11 jobs above Rs 1 crore salary package and 90 job offers with Rs 50 lakh per annum were also offered to students this year. The highest domestic offer received this year was Rs 1.20 crore, while the highest international offer was Rs 2.05 crore.
