GATE 2019 commences; Exam to be held in two shifts per day

New Delhi, February 2: IIT Madras has commenced the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance examinations for 24 papers from today. The entrance exam will be conducted in two sessions- forenoon and afternoon in online mode (Computer Based Test). The entrance exam is being conducted in 195 cities over India and 2 cities outside India. Starting from today the examination will be conducted in continuation on Feb 3, 9 and 11.
Test papers of Chemistry (CY), Mechanical Engineering-1 (ME-1) and Mining Engineering (MN) will be conducted in the forenoon session (09:30 pm - 12:30 pm). In the afternoon session (2:30 pm - 05:30 pm) test papers of Mechanical Engineering-2 (ME-2), Engineering Sciences (XE), Life Sciences (XL) and Textile Engineering and Fibre Science will take place.
Guidelines for D'Day
Amid the intense preparations and nervousness of the exam, students usually tend to forget important documents and instructions. Read these exam guidelines to avoid any inconvenience on the exam day.

Candidates must carry the hard copy of the admit card. It is to be noted that no student will be allowed entry to the exam hall without the admit card.

Along with the admit card, candidates will have to carry a valid photo identity proof such as passport, aadhar, voter ID etc for verification purposes.

Before heading out to the exam centre, carefully check the location and reach the exam centre well before time.

Make sure that you do not carry any electronic gadget with you such as a calculator or mobile phone as they are not allowed inside the exam centre.

After reaching the exam centre, check the seating arrangement to avoid any inconvenience and delay.

Avoid any coating (ink, Mehandi) on your fingertips as a biometric system may be used to capture finger print.
GATE is an entrance examination for students seeking admissions in Master courses for Engineering, Technology and Architecture. Apart from admissions in Master courses, GATE scorecard is used for PSUs for recruitment.
