GATE 2019 Paper Analysis: CS ranged from easy to moderately difficult

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 4: IIT Madras successfully concluded GATE 2019 for 15 disciplines on February 3. While, on February 2 papers of ME, MN, XE, XL, TF and CY were concluded. The remaining papers of the national level postgraduate engineering entrance examination will be conducted on February 9 and 10. The paper of Computer Science (CS) was held in single shift from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on February 3. More than one lakh students appeared for CS paper where the difficulty level was found to be easy to moderately difficult by the students.

Overall difficulty -According to the media reports, some students found the paper to be overall easy while others found the level to be moderately difficult.
Section wise difficulty- Students found general aptitude section easy while questions from Database were said to be tricky. A huge number of questions were asked from Programming & Data Structures and Discrete Mathematics subject.
Time Management - As per the reports, students were able to attempt most all the questions as the multiple choice questions were not time taking. However, around 24 questions were NAT which required the candidates to devote more time.
Questions and marks - Total of 60 questions were asked which carried 100 marks in total.
Along with the CS the following papers were conducted on February 3- Aerospace Engineering (AE), Agricultural Engineering (AG), Architecture and Planning (AR), Biotechnology (BT), Ecology and Evolution (EY), Geology and Geophysics (GG), Instrumentation Engineering (IN), Mathematics (MA), Metallurgical Engineering (MT), Physics (PH), Petroleum Engineering (PE), Production and Industrial Engineering (PI), Statistics (ST), and Chemical Engineering (CH).
GATE is being conducted for admission to different M.Tech programmes which are offered at IITs as well as other institutes and recruitment to Public Sector Units. The result of GATE 2019 will be declared on March 16 in online mode.
