NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur director Virendra Kumar Tewari said that the decision on conducting the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering from February 5 or GATE 2022 exam postponement will be taken soon. The GATE 2022 admit card release date has been delayed and the IIT Kharagpur official said they are reviewing the situation.

IIT Kharagpur director said, "We are consulting with our members associated with the GATE exam, and in constant touch with the administration, authorities, the decision on whether to conduct the GATE exam or postpone will be taken soon. The candidates are advised to follow the official website- gate.iitkgp.ac.in only regarding the exam dates, hall ticket."
IIT Kharagpur had postponed the GATE admit card release date and informed candidates that the update on GATE 2022 admit card “will be announced shortly”. The GATE 2022 admit card was scheduled to be out on January 3 which later got postponed to January 7. As per the IIT-Kgp director statement, it is expected that the update on GATE 2022 exam will be announced soon. Meanwhile, students have been demanding for an update on GATE 2022 exam postponement as the country is once again witnessing a rise in Covid-19, Omicron cases in India.
As per the IIT Kharagpur GATE official notice, GATE 2022 exam dates are February 5, 6, 12 and 13. Though there is no official confirmation on this, it is highly likely that the exam may get postponed as there is a sudden surge of Covid-19 cases in India.

India saw a single-day rise of 1,79,723 coronavirus infections and the number of active cases has increased to 7,23,619, the highest in around 204 days.
A student wrote on Twitter, “ I request the concerned authorities for GATE 2022 to kindly postpone the exam as the peak of 3rd Covid wave is to be in first half of February only. This has been clearly forecasted by various agencies including IIT Madras too.”
