Goa board plans to introduce NCERT books for Classes 9 to 11 for academic year 2027-28

GBSHSE : After introducing NEP-aligned textbooks up to Class 8, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is now developing textbooks for Classes 9 to 11. With these new textbooks expected to be available from the 2027-28 academic year, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has already prepared a roadmap for their implementation.

According to the Times of India report, Goa Board’s chairperson Bhagirath Shetye said that the board will adopt NCERT textbooks for certain subjects, including English, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, and Hindi.

He also said the board plans to continue with the current history and geography textbooks, as they have been updated recently by the board with local content.

Additionally, for subjects such as Hindi, the board will review its performance during the first year and then decide whether any changes are needed to address local requirements. Following implementation, the board will also assess the need for any additional local content.

Goa Board: NCERT textbooks

The chairman also added that, as per the prevailing standards, the Goa board has implemented the existing NCERT textbooks for English, mathematics, science, economics, psychology, and there are only local books available for some subjects like accountancy and secretarial practice.

For Class 9, the new textbooks are being developed, and draft syllabi have been published on NCERT’s official website, allowing teachers and other stakeholders to review and provide feedback on the proposed content. For Classes 10 and 11, the revised textbooks will be introduced during the 2027–28 academic year.

This year in March, NCERT outlined a roadmap for the introduction of new textbooks aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The initiative is based on the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023, which defines learning expectations for students across different stages of schooling.
