Gujarat Board has revamped the exam pattern for Classes 9, 11 by increasing the weightage for objective-type questions to 30% and decreasing subjective questions to 70%.

NEW DELHI: After 10 years, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary has overhauled the Class 9 and Class 11 exam pattern in line with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The exam pattern for Classes 9 and 11 has been changed for the academic year 2024-25 for the purpose of maintaining uniformity in the examination pattern and for smooth transition into Class 10, 12 board exams.
The question paper format, marks, sample question papers of the main subjects of Class-9 and 11 have been sent to the respective schools. The decision, which aims to reduce the number of failing students, will impact nearly 15 lakh students.
The question paper pattern of some of the subjects has not been changed. The existing format has been retained for 6 subjects in Class 9 - computer studies, music, yoga, health and physical education, agriculture, animal husbandry and dairy science, and home science. For Class 11, the exam pattern for computer studies, music, yoga, health and physical education has not been revised.
Gujarat Board has revamped the exam pattern for Classes 9 and 11 by increasing the weightage for objective-type questions to 30%. Earlier, students had to attempt 20% objective and 80% descriptive questions.
The board provided internal options for students till last year, wherein students had to select either one of the questions. However, as per the new exam pattern, students will be given five options, of which they can attempt any two or three questions, as per the Ahmedabad Mirror report.
The new exam pattern will be implemented for all streams including science, commence, Sanskrit prathama, and madhyama. Class 11 syllabus and sample question paper for Class 11 Gujarati, Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Economics, Statistics, Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology, History, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology subjects has already been prepared by the board, as per reports.
As per the Gujarat Board exam date sheet 2025, the GSEB SSC Class 10, 12 board exams will be held between February 27 to March 13.
