Try NowThe Gujarat government has announced GCAS registration dates for admission to various undergraduate (UG) programmes at state and private universities in the state. Candidates will be able to register for the admission process 2026-27 through Gujarat’s centralised admission portal Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) from May 7 at gcas.gujgov.edu.in.
More than 3 lakh students who cleared the GSEB 12th exams 2026 are now eligible to apply for the UG programmes through GCAS admission portal.
Similarly, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has also announced the GUJCET 2026 results , making the qualified candidates eligible for UG admissions to various state and private universities .
The GCAS centralised admission portal will be open for 21 days and the UG registration will be closed on May 28, the official notification reads.
Unreserved and SEBC category candidates should have to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 300 on the GSEB portal, while the application charges for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates at GSEB system is Rs 150.
GCAS Portal: Pushback from students, universities
However, GCAS portal , a single-window system, which was launched by the Gujarat state government in 2024, has faced major backlash from students, colleges and political groups. The growing aversion towards the centralised system is due to its “too long and too complicated” process.
Several students and universities across the state have expressed their struggle to properly make use of the GSEB portal, which was launched to streamline and improve transparency in UG, PG, PhD and diploma admissions.
In addition, according to the notification, if a student finds any difficulty in filling the online form on the GCAS portal, they can visit the “Free Form Filling Center” shown on the portal in person and get help.
“New AI Agent facility on GCAS portal for the convenience of students! They can now immediately get information, cut-offs, and other necessary details of any government or private university associated with the GCAS portal or any college affiliated with them through a call or chatbot. Visit the GCAS portal for the chatbot,” the notification added.
