India Republic Day: IGNOU, JMI, DTU, JNU, IITs witness national flag hoisting by vice-chancellors

NEW DELHI: The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated today at Rajpath with the Republic Day 2022 parade and participation of about 5,000 citizens. The event was also celebrated across many universities in India.
Republic Day was celebrated at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Delhi campus, as well as across the 56 regional centres of IGNOU. Nageshwar Rao, vice-chancellor of IGNOU, unfurled the national flag at the Delhi campus, said a statement from IGNOU.
Najma Akhtar, vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) hoisted the Indian national flag in front of the "Dr MA Ansari Auditorium" of JMI as part of the Republic Day celebrations. The Indian National Anthem was sung by the gathering, said a statement from JMI.
According to a statement from the Delhi Technological University (DTU), the university celebrated Republic Day 2022 with vice-chancellor Jai Prakash Saini hoisting the tricolour. “A patriotic run and cricket match were also organized by the DTU Sports Council on the occasion,” the statement said.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) conducted various cultural activities competitions on the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations among its students. The results of the competitions were announced by the university and posted on social media.

According to a tweet by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, the institute celebrated Republic Day 2022 adhering to COVID-19-appropriate behaviour, following all the COVID rules and guidelines, with minimum participation, maintaining social distance.

“The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi celebrated the 73rd Republic Day with patriotic fervour,” said a tweet from the official account of IIT Delhi. A video clip and pictures of the celebration were shared on Twitter. V Ramgopal Rao, the director of IIT Delhi, hoisted the Indian national flag on the IITD campus.
