Haryana Cold Wave: The decision to close all government and private schools for Classes 1 to 5 has been taken in the view of intense cold weather conditions.

NEW DELHI: The Haryana government on Tuesday announced the closure of all schools for Class 1 to 5 in the state till January 27. The decision to close all government and private schools up to Class 5 has been taken in the view of intense cold weather conditions. However, the teaching and non-teaching staff can attend the school as usual.
State education minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar said the decision has been taken keeping in view the unusually cold weather. Schools opened in Haryana on Tuesday after a 22-day holiday. But due to intense cold wave, the government announced extension of school holidays.

"The department has decided to close the schools for students of Classes 1 to 5 till 27.01.2024 (Government, Private and Govt. recognised) due to the ongoing intense cold wave. Although the teaching and non-teaching staff shall attend the school as usual", the order said.

The Chandigarh administration on Monday also announced an additional week of winter vacation for students upto Class 5. However, schools may decide to hold classes for higher grades, but only after taking the necessary safety measures to prevent students from the intense cold. The order stated that schools have to close by 4 pm. and shouldn't open before 9:30 am.
Meanwhile Punjab, Haryana, and several districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have extended holidays for schools as cold wave and foggy conditions continue to grip northern states. The Delhi government has also changed school timings due to the adverse weather condition.
