Hindi University accepts key student demands, to restart women’s studies, film studies and PhD admissions

Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishvavidalaya in Wardha in Maharashtra on Monday decided to accept major demands of students who have been protesting over the past three months against course transfers and stalled PhD admissions. They had also been calling for the rollback of FIRs registered against six research scholars.

The University had discontinued the Women's Studies and Film Studies courses from the Wardha campus and shifted them to the University's Prayagraj centre in Uttar Pradesh in 2022. Protesting students were demanding to restart these courses in Wardha campus again and restarting the PhD courses.

The Executive Council of MGAHV on Monday has decided in the larger interest of students to offer programmes of the Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishvavidalaya (MGAHV) from the academic session 2027-28. A release by MGAHV said the Executive Council was informed that the Ph.D. admission process for the 2022-23 academic session has been completed. The Ph.D. admission process for the new academic session has also been initiated.

Diploma programmes to continue

The release also said that the Executive Council was also informed that certificate and diploma programmes will continue in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020. It said the Women Studies and Film Studies, programmes will offered at Wardha Headquarters. Similarly, Ph.D admission process will commence and continue on a regular basis and Certificate and diploma programmes to continue in accordance with the National Education Policy.

A certificate will be awarded upon completion of a one-year programme, while a diploma will be awarded upon completion of a two-year programme on exit. The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof.l Kumud Sharma. The Executive Council also approved the appointments of new Heads of Departments and new faculty members, as well as the promotions granted under the Career Advancement Scheme. The Council gave approval in-principle for the establishment of a Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Research Chair at the University.

Earlier, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced support for students of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya (MGAHV) protesting against course transfers and stalled PhD admissions, calling for the rollback of FIRs registered against six research scholars. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday asserted that the peaceful agitation should not be suppressed through police cases, while the University defended the criminal cases and interim campus bans, citing that the protest had disrupted the administration.
