ICAI students protest against erroneous evaluation; demand reforms

NEW DELHI, September 23- Thousands of students across India have opened protest against The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on September 23, 2019. Student masses are outraged upon numerous instances of ICAI answer books that came out to be wrongly evaluated. Already CA students have to put in extreme efforts into their studies, so after all this, if one fails due to an error at the end of examiner while evaluating the answer books, this a matter of concern. Students have brought the protest to social media as well wherein, #dearicaipleasechange and #ICAIReforms is trending.

Students protesting against ICAI demand reforms in the following directions:

• Centralized Evaluation

• Grant of MCQ booklet along with certified answer books

• Penalty against erroneous examiners

• Provision for Re-correction

It may be noted that in July, 2019, there was news of an unauthorized person in Kolkata who was found in possession of ICAI answer books, which was in itself a big question over ICAI’s authenticity when it comes to norms to be followed for answer book evaluation. Recently on September 21, an announcement was hosted on ICAI website notifying on the reforms that are to be introduced in the evaluation system to assure the stakeholders.

This was followed by a live webcast by ICAI dedicated to the Education and Examination System on September 22.

It is obvious that if you invest a lot into your studies, such petty news questioning the evaluation process of a renowned body like ICAI does bring a lot of questions in student’s mind. Hence, a strong reaction is expected from ICAI that affirms student concerns and brings reliance on the system.
