NEW DELHI: The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) has clarified that the Common Admission Test (CAT) part 1 pass out students pursuing the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) course are also exempted from appearing in business laws and ethics paper. On February 13, the council of ICMAI announced that CAT pass out students pursuing CMA have been exempted from appearing in paper 5.

The official notification is yet to be published on the official website – icmai.in. The business laws and ethics paper comes under CMA Intermediate course.

“In partial modification to the circular dated 13th February, 2023, this is to clarify that subject exemption granted to the CAT pass out students for pursuing the CMA course under syllabus 2022, is also available to CAT course Part 1 pass out students,” said ICMAI in an official circular. Students will have to make payment of Rs 1,000 to claim the subject exemption.

A CMA shared the notification on social media and thanked the chairman of ICMAI professional committee, institute president and council members.

In the 337th meeting held on September 11, October 19 and November 27, the council decided to grant subject exemption to CAT pass out students for pursuing the CMA course under syllabus 2022. “Applications for exemption to be made to the Directorate of Studies, as per the guidelines,” the ICMAI earlier said.

The exemption from appearing in paper 5 - Business Laws and Ethics - under the intermediate course was announced on the official website, icmai.in.
