NEW DELHI: The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), which conducts the English proficiency test for candidates going to study abroad, will now allow them to retake IELTS 2023 test if they are not satisfied with their score on the first attempt. The IELTS One Skill Retake, first available only in Australia, is being launched in other regions in 2023, including India.

The IELTS One Skill Retake policy, available for both IELTS Academic and General Training tests, allows candidates to retake the test in any one of its components instead of all four which include listening, reading, writing, and speaking .

The format and timing of that IELTS One Skill Retake test are the same as those for a normal IELTS test.

Candidates can book an IELTS One Skill Retake for 60 days after the original test and are allowed only one retake for each full IELTS test. This means that they cannot retake the test in more than one component.

After the retake, the candidates will receive a new test report form which will display the updated IELTS result - the new score for one skill and the scores for the other three skills in the original test. Candidates can choose whether to use the original or the new test report form.
