IGNOU July Admissions: What is a credit system?
The open university follows a ‘credit system’ for all the offered courses. Here, total hours of study have been replaced by credits. For instance, a 4-credit course will have around 120 hours of study. Each credit in the system is equal to 30 hours of study involving several factors such as reading, writing, listening to audio, watching video, attending counselling sessions, teleconference, and writing assignment responses.
“This helps the learner to know the academic effort he/she has to put in, to successfully complete a course,” as per the university’s official website.
According to the evaluation process, the university uses its multi-tier system. The evaluation of candidates depends upon various instructional activities undertaken by them.
“IGNOU has a multi-tier system of evaluation - self-assessment exercises within each unit of study, continuous evaluation mainly through assignments which are tutor-marked, practical assignments and seminar/workshops/extended contact programmes, term-end examination, project work, etc,” the official website reads.
All the degrees, diplomas, certification programmes are recognised by the University Grants Commission.
