JEE Mains 2026 Result: New date and time

The National Testing Agency has announced the result date for JEE Mains 2026 session 1. However, the timings for the scorecard are yet to be announced. The testing agency will declare the JEE Mains 2026 session 1 results by February 16.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) follows a normalisation process to ensure fairness towards the candidates who appeared in multiple shifts of the JEE Mains 2026 session 1.

The normalisation process is a method to compare a candidate's performance across multiple shifts with varying difficulty levels. The National Testing Agency - NTA - converts raw marks into a standardised NTA score or percentile from 100 to 0.

What are the JEE Mains 2026 qualifying marks?

The qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026 is expected to be between 93 and 94 for general, 80 to 81 for Economically Weaker Section - EWS, 79 to 81 for Other Backward Classes (OBC) - Non Creamy Layer (NCL), 61 to 63 for Scheduled Caste (SC), and 47 to 50 for Scheduled Tribe (ST).

What after JEE Mains 2026 session 1 results?

Of the total 13.5 lakh candidates who appeared for the JEE Mains 2026 session 1, only 2.5 lakh aspirants will be able to qualify for the engineering entrance examination. JEE Mains 2026-qualified candidates will have the option to either appear for JEE Advanced or use their scores to get admission at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

Candidates will also be able to estimate their potential colleges using their JEE Mains 2026 session 1 score through Careers360’s college predictor tool.

As per the marking scheme, the NTA will deduct one mark for incorrect answers, whereas four marks will be awarded for each correct response. Notably, no marks will be charged for not answering or unanswered questions.

In addition, the JEE Mains 2026 session 2 registrations are open till February 25, and candidates who wish to improve their scores can appear again. The NTA will conduct the computer-based JEE mains 2026 session 2 from April 2 to 9 in two shifts.

JEE Main 2026: Marks vs percentile

The National Testing Agency will soon declare the JEE Mains 2026 results for candidates seeking admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs,and GFTIs. Here is the expected JEE Mains 2026 marks vs percentile table for candidates to calculate their probable percentile using marks.

Candidates scoring between 70 and 89 marks in JEE Mains 2026 session 1 can expect a percentile range from 87.5 to 92.0 percent.

JEE Main Result: What will be the safe score for JEE Mains 2026?

A safe score for JEE Main 2026 depends on the category and goal. Generally, General category students aiming for top NITs or IIITs should aim for 200+ marks (99+ percentile), while a score of 120–140 marks (95+ percentile) is considered good for other colleges.

February 15, 2026 | 09:12 AM IST

JEE Main percentile required for JEE Advanced

To qualify for JEE Advanced 2026, the expected minimum JEE Main percentile for the General category is around 93.5–95+. The expected cutoffs for other categories are: OBC-NCL ~80–83, EWS ~80–85, SC ~61–65, and ST ~47–50.

February 14, 2026 | 10:17 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Why some high scorers do not get IIT

JEE Main only provides eligibility for JEE Advanced. Final IIT admission depends entirely on the Advanced rank. Many students scoring high in Mains fail to replicate performance in Advanced due to different difficulty level.

February 14, 2026 | 09:43 PM IST

JEE Main: Planning strategy after seeing your result

High scorers should start Advanced preparation immediately. Mid-range scorers should aim for Session 2 improvement. Lower scorers should consider alternate exams while still attempting improvement.

February 14, 2026 | 09:16 PM IST

JEE Main: Why score normalisation is necessary

Because papers differ in difficulty across shifts, raw marks alone would be unfair. Normalisation ensures that a tougher shift candidate is not penalised compared to an easier shift candidate.

February 14, 2026 | 08:42 PM IST

JEE Main: Scorecard details

The scorecard contains subject-wise percentile, overall percentile, and qualifying status. It does not show rank yet. Rank appears only after combining both sessions.

February 14, 2026 | 08:18 PM IST

JEE Main: Who should appear for session 2

If your percentile is below your target branch cutoff, reattempting is beneficial because the better percentile between the two sessions is used. Many students improve by 5-10 percentile in the second attempt.

February 14, 2026 | 07:53 PM IST

JEE Main: Branch choice vs college

Students often chase top institutes but ignore branch interest. A preferred branch in a slightly lower NIT may be better for long-term career satisfaction than an unwanted branch in a higher NIT.

February 14, 2026 | 07:19 PM IST

JEE Main: How home state quota helps students

Nearly half the seats in NITs are reserved for candidates from the same state. This dramatically reduces required rank for those students compared to other-state applicants.

February 14, 2026 | 06:51 PM IST

JEE Main: Expected timeline after result declaration

After Session 1 results, Session 2 registrations continue, exams are held in April, final ranks are published, and JoSAA counselling starts around June. Planning ahead helps avoid last-minute panic.

February 14, 2026 | 06:25 PM IST

JEE Main: Qualifying cutoff vs admission cutoff

The qualifying cutoff allows you to sit for JEE Advanced. Admission cutoffs for NITs and IIITs are much higher and depend on branch demand, institute reputation and seat availability.

February 14, 2026 | 05:58 PM IST

How many candidates qualify for JEE Advanced?

Only the top 2.5 lakh candidates across categories qualify for JEE Advanced. The cutoff percentile changes yearly based on performance distribution, not fixed marks.

February 14, 2026 | 05:46 PM IST

JEE Main: Why percentiles fluctuates every year?

JEE is not a fixed scoring exam. The percentile depends on the performance of all candidates in that session. Even if the paper is easy, percentiles may drop because many students score high marks.

February 14, 2026 | 05:24 PM IST

JEE Main: How dropped questions affect score

If NTA drops a question in the final answer key, full marks are awarded to everyone who attempted it. This often changes raw marks and slightly shifts percentile trends. Many students see unexpected increases because of these bonus marks.

February 14, 2026 | 04:50 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Final ranks

After Session-2 ends, final ranks are released, followed by JoSAA counselling registration, choice filling, mock allotment and seat acceptance rounds. The entire admission process typically continues for several weeks.

February 14, 2026 | 04:15 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Documents needed after result

Candidates should prepare category certificates, domicile proof, and identity documents in advance. Counselling deadlines are strict, and missing documents can lead to seat cancellation despite good rank.

February 14, 2026 | 03:44 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Can you skip session-2 after a good score?

Yes, if your percentile is high enough for desired colleges, Session-2 is optional. However, some students still attempt it to improve branch chances or qualify for Advanced comfortably. The decision depends on target institute and category cutoffs.

February 14, 2026 | 03:15 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: What happens after qualifying for JEE advanced

Candidates who fall within the top 2.5 lakh qualifiers become eligible to register for JEE Advanced. However, this does not guarantee IIT admission — it only allows participation in the second-level exam. Separate preparation strategy is required because the exam pattern and difficulty differ significantly.

February 14, 2026 | 02:23 PM IST

JEE Main 2026: Result site and link

Candidates will be able to check the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 result on the official website: jeemain.nta.nic.in. After visiting the homepage, students need to click on the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Result link to proceed to the login window.

The result login page — where candidates must enter their application number and date of birth/password — will look like the below image.

At present, the JEE Main 2026 result is awaited, and the link will become active once the National Testing Agency publishes the scorecards online. Students should keep their credentials ready to avoid delays when the result is released.

February 14, 2026 | 02:13 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Difference between percentile and percentage

Many candidates assume 90 percentile equals 90 percent marks, which is incorrect. Percentile reflects relative performance among candidates, not the fraction of marks scored. A student may score nearly half the marks but still get above 90 percentile depending on paper difficulty.

February 14, 2026 | 01:45 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Why chemistry often decides selection

In many close cases, Chemistry percentile turns out to be the deciding factor for qualification or better branch allotment. Since most students perform similarly in Mathematics and Physics, Chemistry becomes the scoring subject that pushes the overall percentile higher. This trend appears almost every year.

February 14, 2026 | 01:19 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Importance of home-state quota in NITs

Around half the seats in NITs are reserved for students belonging to the same state as the institute. Because of this, a lower percentile candidate from that state may get admission while a higher percentile candidate from another state may not. Students should carefully analyse home-state advantage before locking choices.

February 14, 2026 | 12:58 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Scorecard details

The scorecard contains personal details, subject-wise percentiles in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and overall NTA percentile. It does not show raw marks or final rank yet. Many students misunderstand this and think their rank is missing — actually ranks are released only after both sessions conclude.

February 14, 2026 | 12:34 PM IST

JEE Main 2026 Result: Why session-1 rank is not final

Many students panic after seeing a low estimated rank, but Session-1 does not decide your final All India Rank. NTA prepares the final rank list only after combining both January and April attempts. The better percentile among the two attempts is considered for merit preparation. This means a major jump in rank is still possible if performance improves in Session-2.

February 14, 2026 | 12:17 PM IST

JEE Main Results: NIT Trichy cutoffs

For NIT Trichy, the official JEE Main 2026 admission cut-offs (opening and closing ranks) will be announced by JoSAA after the Session 2 results in April 2026. Based on Session 1 difficulty level and previous trends, the expected cut-offs for 2026 are outlined below.

Expected closing ranks for popular branches (General Category) is;

  • Computer Science & Engineering: 800 – 1,100

  • Electronics & Communication: 3,000 – 3,500

  • Electrical & Electronics: 5,000 – 5,600

  • Mechanical Engineering: 7,500 – 8,300

  • Chemical Engineering: 11,000 – 11,900

  • Civil Engineering: 15,000 – 17,300

February 14, 2026 | 11:58 AM IST

JEE Main 2026 Results: Resolving login and technical issues

Heavy traffic on the result portal may cause loading failures or login errors such as missing application details. Students facing this should refresh the browser, clear cache, or use private browsing mode. If the result shows withheld status, it could be due to document verification problems. In such cases, immediately contact the NTA helpline for correction and guidance.

February 14, 2026 | 11:40 AM IST

JEE Main 2026 Results: Understanding the JEE advanced cutoff

With scores to be declared shortly, the main concern for students is qualification for JEE Advanced. Initial indications show the General category cutoff may have risen slightly due to higher competition in the JEE Main session 1. Students should review the official NTA announcement for exact qualifying percentiles across all categories. Those who cleared the threshold must now shift preparation entirely toward the Advanced syllabus and rigorous mock practice.

February 14, 2026 | 11:11 AM IST

JEE Main Session 1 Result: 200 marks vs percentile/rank

What 200 marks roughly means

  • Usually around 98.8 to 99.3 percentile (varies every year and shift)

  • Approx rank about 7,000 to 15,000 (normalisation may change it)

February 14, 2026 | 10:50 AM IST

NTA JEE Mains final answer key shortly

The NTA is expected to publish the JEE Mains final answer key for January session 1 exams 2026 soon at nta.ac.in or jeemain.nta.nic.in. The provisional answer key was released on February 4 and candidates were allowed to challenge until February 6.

February 14, 2026 | 10:23 AM IST

JEE Results 2026: Errors in answer key

The Coaching Federation of India (CFI) and JEE aspirants have challenged 17 errors in the provisional JEE Main answer key, and claimed that 10 questions among them should be awarded bonus marks. The remaining questions had discrepancies in numerical values, ambiguity, multiple correct answers, and incorrect options.

February 14, 2026 | 09:49 AM IST

How many appeared for JEE Main session 1 exams 2026?

Over 13 lakh candidates appeared for the JEE Mains session 1 exams 2026. However, the NTA has announced the exact numbers. Last year, 13,11,54 candidates had registered for session 1, of which 12,58,136 candidates appeared and recorded 95.93% attendance.

February 14, 2026 | 08:55 AM IST

JEE Mains 2026 Results: What is NTA score?

The NTA scores in JEE Mains 2026 are calculated using the raw marks obtained by a candidate in session 1 exams. The same normalisation method is used for session 2 exams as well. The normalisation method is used by the NAT as the exam is conducted in multiple shifts for the three subjects - physics, chemistry, and mathematics.

The JEE Mains final result will be declared by merging the NTA scores for each candidate in both sessions. Candidates must note that the NTA will consider the best of the two scores obtained in January and April sessions.

February 14, 2026 | 08:12 AM IST

JEE Main April 2026 attempt registration last date

The JEE Mains results for January session 1 exams will be declared soon on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Candidates who are not satisfied with their marks and those who taking their first attempt in the upcoming session will be allowed to register for JEE Main April session 2 exams till February 25.

Good scores for 99+ percentile in JEE Main 2026

A JEE Main score above 170-179 marks out of the total 300 in BE, BTech will fetch 99+ percentile in the session 1 exams conducted by the NTA, as per the JEE Main percentile vs marks trends. The percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or below that particular candidate in that shift.
