NEW DELHI, JUNE 24: The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade has gone down eight places in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 that was issued by the ministry of human resources and development. In 2018, IIFT was placed at 23rd place in NIRF ranking of management schools, while in 2019 it was ranked 31.
Speaking about the slip in the ranking of IIFT, Director Manoj Pant stated that the dip in ranking was due to the fact that the institute was not able to maintain the necessary score in 'Research and Professional Practice and Perception.' He added that the institute had maintained its performance as compared to other parameters. Pant further clarified that the ranking was determined on 2017-18 data. During this period there were only 40 faculty members in two campuses of IIFT. Over the past one year, the institute had hired 15 new faculty members and in the coming days there would be an improvement in the research output.

Steps to Improve Ranking of IIFT
On being asked about the measures that will be taken to improve the ranking of IIFT, Director Manoj Pant added that they have reached out to the industry, alumni as well as to other stakeholders so that the research undertaken by the institute is showcased. In the near future the institute will hire a PR firm also with an aim to enhance the coverage of institutional activities that are undertaken.
