IIM Ahmedabad: Women enrolment increases in PGP, PGP FABM classes

IIMA: Women comprise 28% of IIM Ahmedabad’s new intake for the regular PGP in management.
NEW DELHI: In its new batches of 2021-23, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad saw an increase in women enrolment in regular postgraduate programme and food and agri-business management programme. IIMA announced the commencement of both the programmes virtually on Thursday.
The women comprise 28 percent of the total class size in the new PGP batch that is six percent higher than last year’s 22 percent. In the PGP-FABM batch, women joining the course is nine percent higher than the 34 percent registered in 2020. Meanwhile, the men in PGP class are 72 percent and 57 percent in PGP FABM.
This year, IIMA has registered a total intake of 432 students of whom 385 have joined the PGP programme. Of the total, 67 percent of students have prior work experience.
In the current PGP-FABM batch about 96 percent of the class comprises students in the age group of 21 to 25 years. Of the 47 students, as many as 14 come with prior work experience.
Incoming students are from arts, science, commerce, engineering, agriculture, and allied sciences, among others. The non-engineering students constitute 28 percent of the PGP batch compared to 72 percent of engineering students. The number of non-engineering students is higher in PGP FABM with 51 percent of students joining the course.
Delivering the inaugural address to the incoming classes, IIMA director, Errol D’ Souza said, “You are about to embark on one of the most important and vibrant phases in your life. The two years at IIMA will present you with unlimited opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills, explore your interests, and most important of all, build a network of friends and mentors who will support you in the future.”
