NEW DELHI: Manmohan Prasad Gupta, a former IIT Delhi professor has assumed the position of director at Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM Lucknow) today.
The management institute announced about the appointment of MK Gupta on April 16. He will be succeeding Archana Shukla, former director at the IIM Lucknow.
Professor Gupta has earned his bachelors degree in BTech (1983) from the Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, while MTech and PhD degree from IIT Delhi.
Before the appointment to the IIM Lucknow director chair, professor Gupta was serving as a Modi Foundation Chair professor in the department of management studies at IIT Delhi.
“He began his academic career at IIT Roorkee before joining IIT Delhi in 1997, where he has played a pivotal role in advancing management studies. He has been a Professor since 2008 and held the prestigious Modi Foundation Chair Professorship,” as per the official notice.
Moreover, professor Gupta has also handled several key administrative roles, including head of the department of management studies at IIT Delhi from 2016 to 2019, and professor-in-charge, dean (planning) in 2015–16.

In addition, he also played a foundational role in establishing the School of Management & Entrepreneurship (SME) at IIT Jodhpur, serving as its first head.
“Prof. Gupta is widely recognised for his pioneering contributions to the field of e-governance in India. His extensive research output includes over 260 research papers published in national and international journals and conference proceedings. He has supervised 38 doctoral theses and led 25 global, sponsored, and consultancy projects,” the notice reads.
Furthermore, professor Gupta has also contributed to national ICT policy through his involvement in several central and state government committees.
He has also served on juries for prestigious awards such as the Digital India Awards, National e-Governance Awards, Data Security Council of India (DSCI), and the Computer Society of India (CSI) e-Gov Awards.
Awarded the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute’s Humanities & Social Sciences Fellowship in 199, he was a visiting fellow at the University of Manitoba. Notably, he received the Best Professor Award at the World Education Congress and CMO Asia in 2012.
