NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur awarded degrees to 187 graduating students in a virtual convocation on Monday.
In a combined online ceremony, meritorious students of the batches of 2018-2020 and 2019-2021 were felicitated with annual awards and medals.
For excellent academic performance, one student from each batch was awarded the chairman’s gold medal for first rank and the director’s gold medal for second rank.
From each batch, IIM Sambalpur also awarded a gold medal for overall achievement in extracurricular and institution-building activities in addition to academic excellence. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, or ICSI, also conferred a “signature award” to the topper of each batch.
These batches were among the first to have shifted to online-mode classrooms after the pandemic hit the country last year.
Despite the COVID-19 related restrictions, the final placement process for the MBA batch of 2018-20 witnessed close to 100 companies visiting the campus. The fifth batch, on the other hand, achieved 100 percent placements with a multi-fold increase in recruiters across sectors. This batch also has the highest gender diversity across all IIMs with 46 women students in a batch strength of 95.
Congratulating the students, IIM Sambalpur director, Mahadeo Jaiswal said: “The performance of IIM Sambalpur in the academic year 2019 and 2020 has been remarkable and momentous despite the disruptions caused due to global pandemic in this period. We are extremely proud of our graduates and are confident that we have been able to mould these young minds in a way that today we are sending out responsible leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset into the world.”
