Institute plans major expansion, aims to double campus infrastructure in next two years and scale student strength to 2,000 in coming years

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur held its 10th annual convocation, where 416 students were awarded degrees across master in business administration (MBA), executive MBA, and PhD programmes.
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati attended the ceremony as Chief Guest, along with senior faculty and industry representatives.
As per the institute, the graduating cohort reflected a strong emphasis on gender diversity, with women comprising 76% of the batch. The MBA (2024–26) programme accounted for the largest share of graduates.
The institute also announced multiple awards, including chairman’s gold medals, director’s gold medals, and an all-round performance award for select students.
IIM Sambalpur stated that it plans to double its campus infrastructure over the next two years and increase student strength to around 2,000 in the coming years. It also reiterated its focus on integrating technology into curriculum delivery and supporting startup ecosystems.
In his address, the Governor said IIM Sambalpur represents a blend of cultural heritage and modern technology in learning. “IIM Sambalpur is a unique blend of cultural heritage and modern technology in learning, embodying innovation, inclusiveness, and academic excellence,” he said. He also referred to initiatives such as the Master Weaver Programme, calling it “a remarkable initiative, promoting women-led entrepreneurship and showcasing how tradition and innovation can create global impact.”
Director Mahadeo Prasad Jaiswal said the institute has recorded growth in rankings, including a jump in the NIRF 2025 rankings. He added, “The year 2025-26 marked a period of strategic growth, inclusivity, and academic distinction,” and noted that the institute’s AI-enabled classroom model “is being globally cited… in terms of learning innovation.”
The convocation proceedings also included remarks from industry leaders, who spoke about evolving global business environments and the need for adaptability among graduates.
