IIMC will start registration for language journalism programmes in Odia, Marathi, Malayalam and Urdu from tomorrow.

NEW DELHI: The union education ministry has granted the deemed-to-be-university under distinct category status to the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC Delhi). The status has also been extended to its regional center in Jammu, Dhenkanal, Amravati, Aizawl and Kottayam. The status has been awarded on the advice of University Grants Commission (UGC).
The IIMC will now be able to offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees. The institute can award degrees that are specified under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956. The IIMC will also have authority to revise the curriculum. The IIMC will also have the freedom to conduct examination and evaluation.
The IIMC has thanked the education ministry for the status. “A big thanks to the ministry of education for declaring IIMC New Delhi and its five regional centres as deemed to be university. IIMC is committed to giving its best to promote education, training, and research in mass communication,” the IIMC said on its X account.
Information and broadcast minister Anurag Thakur, on X account, said, “It is a special and historic day for the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) as it receives deemed University Status. This Institute has a glorious history of imparting quality education in media subjects like Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations. The granting of University status marks a new beginning, as more courses could be added to the curriculum along with research and doctoral programmes.”
The registration process for IIMC Language Journalism (Odia, Marathi, Malayalam and Urdu) Entrance Exam 2024 will start on February 1. Students aspiring for IIMC Language Journalism programme can apply on the official website, iimc.nic.in, till February 29.

The entrance exam for all the four language journalism programmes will be conducted on March 10 and the result will be declared on March 20.
Candidates applying for the courses will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 800. Those belonging to OBC category will have to pay Rs 600 as registration fee while candidates of SC and ST categories will have to pay Rs 550.
The IIMC PG Diploma 2024 registration started on January 5, 2024. Candidates can apply for these programmes on official website, pgcuet.samarth.ac.in, till January 31.
