IISc Bangalore, Nokia to establish center of excellence in networked robotics

Nokia centre at IISc Bangalore will focus on robotics design, AI and automation solutions in telecom networks and their applications.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has opened the new Nokia Center of Excellence (CoE) in Networked Robotics at the IISc Bengaluru campus. The Nokia CoE at IISc Bangalore, built under collaboration with Nokia aims to promote inter-disciplinary research in robotics and advanced communication technologies in 5G and artificial intelligence (AI).

The research area of the IISc Nokia centre will include robotics design, AI and automation solutions in telecom networks and their applications. Under the collaboration between IISc Bangalore and Nokia, Nokia will fund the centre for three consecutive years, claims the institute.

According to a statement from the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, the CoE will also develop use cases across industrial automation, agriculture and disaster management. The centre aims to engage with academia, start-ups and industry ecosystem partners and cooperate with them for research and development of use cases.

“Next-generation communication technologies like 5G and 6G will contribute enormously to the growth of India’s economy. Our collaboration with a world-class company like Nokia will enable us to explore new frontiers for advanced technology research to benefit society as well as provide state-of-the-art training to our students to enable them to become technology leaders in the coming decades,” said Govindan Rangarajan, director of IISc Bangalore.
