IIT Bhubaneswar witnesses encouraging pre-placement offers
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar or IIT Bhubaneswar witnessed the first flush of pre‐placement offers (PPOs) handed out at the Institute today. The offers point to an encouraging season ahead, a statement from the Institute said.
There were doubts about placements for engineering students during 2020-21, amidst the pandemic.
“The premier institute has seen a surge in PPOs this year with the offers received already equalling last year’s total offers and is sure to surpass,” said R.V. Raja Kumar, director, IIT Bhubaneswar.
The highest offer made was 43 lakh per annum. The PPO’s indicate a positive placement scenario in-spite of the pandemic situation affecting the business economy throughout the globe.
The final year students are gearing up for the upcoming placement season at IIT Bhubaneswar which is scheduled to start from October 31, 2020. The placement season will be conducted online.
“The shift towards the virtual mode of hiring by organizations for the campus placements is sure to create a new trend of the hiring process,” said Dr A. K. Pradhan, Professor‐in‐charge, Career Development Cell, IIT Bhubaneswar.
Companies make pre‐placement offers based on the performance of candidates who have interned with them.
Many companies like Microsoft, DeShaw, Goldman Sachs, GEP Solutions prefer selecting students who interned with them as it helps them gauge candidates better, over more extended periods and in real work situations.
