IIT Bombay celebrates Alumni Day 2025, marking alumni honours, a Rs 50 crore legacy pledge and the launch of GO-IIT Bombay

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) celebrated its annual Alumni Day 2025 today on December 28 at the Victor Menezes Convention Centre on campus, bringing together alumni, faculty, students, and institute leadership.
Welcoming the gathering, Prof. Upendra Bhandarkar, dean alumni and corporate relations, highlighted the deepening engagement between the institute and its alumni. Addressing the audience, IIT Bombay director Prof. Shireesh Kedare underlined the pivotal role alumni have played in the institute’s journey.
Prof. Kedare said that alumni form a vital part of the IIT Bombay community, contributing not just resources but also invaluable expertise and strong links with society and industry.
Five alumni were honoured with the Distinguished Service Award, while seven alumni received Chapter Service Awards for their sustained contributions to IIT Bombay and its global alumni chapters.

The silver jubilee batch of 2000 pledged Rs 50 crore towards a Legacy Project to support academic and research initiatives at the Institute.
Acknowledging donor contributions, Prof. Kedare noted, “These contributions have helped establish centres of excellence, chair professorships, and enhance campus infrastructure, while playing a key role in student development.”
The event also saw the launch of Kanwal Rekhi’s book, "The Groundbreaker", reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey from IIT Bombay to silicon valley. The Institute felicitated Kirat Patel on becoming the first chairman emeritus of the IIT Bombay alumni association.
The event marked the launch of the GO-IIT Bombay 2025–26 fundraising campaign, aimed at expanding alumni participation in supporting academic and research initiatives. The class of 2000 pledged ₹50 crore towards its legacy project, reinforcing alumni commitment to IIT Bombay’s long-term vision.
