IIT Bombay, Blockchain for Impact collaborate to advance healthcare innovation in India

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and Blockchain for Impact (BFI) have formed a partnership with the goal to improve the country's public health landscape. With India's vast population and intricate public health challenges, the pressure on the country's healthcare system continues to increase. The collaboration aims to tackle these difficulties and enhance healthcare innovation and research.

Collaboration with BFI will help IIT Bombay to accelerate the development and deployment of innovative solutions. IIT Bombay's expertise in innovative research and product development aligns with BFI's goal of improving healthcare accessibility for all. The CAR-T cell therapy developed at IIT Bombay has been dedicated to the nation by president Draupadi Murmu. This milestone underscores IIT Bombay's commitment to spearheading transformative advancements in healthcare.

IIT Bombay's director, Subhasis Chaudhuri, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, stating, "IIT Bombay has always been at the forefront of innovation and this collaboration exemplifies our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge research to address pressing societal challenges. By joining forces with Blockchain for Impact, we aim to accelerate the development and deployment of healthcare innovations that have the potential to transform public health outcomes in India and beyond."

Fund allocation

BFI will allocate $900,000 to IIT Bombay over a three-year period to harness the Institute's proficiency in developing healthcare technologies that are accessible and cost-effective.

BFI-Biome initiative

As part of the larger BFI-Biome initiative, a $15 million program aimed at advancing biomedical research and innovation, will bring together prominent researchers, technologists, and innovators to address critical health issues.

Collaboration with other institutions

The BFI-Biome initiative collaborates with institutions including Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CSIR-CCMB), Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani), Venture Center, Atal Incubation Centre - Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (AIC-CCMB), SIDBI Innovation and Incubation Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (SIIC IIT Kanpur), FNDR, TCG Centres for Research and Education in Science and Technology (TCG CREST), and others to support translational research projects poised to transform healthcare solutions.
