IIT Bombay celebrates Teachers' Day by awarding faculty for excellence in teaching, research

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) celebrated Teachers’ Day at its campus today, marking the birth anniversary of philosopher, educationist, and statesman, S Radhakrishnan. The Teachers' Day was celebrated at IIT Bombay by conferring awards to the faculty for their excellence in teaching, research and development. Lieutenant general Madhuri Kanitkar (Retd), PVSM, AVSM, VSM, and vice-chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, was present at the event as chief guest.

The awards included the IIT Bombay International Award for Excellence in Research in Engineering and Technology; Professor SP Sukhatme Award for Excellence in Teaching, Dr P K Patwardhan Technology Development Award (2023) and C1973 Research Excellence Award. During the Teachers’ Day function at IIT Bombay, Rohit Srivastava was honored for receiving the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar - Vigyan for Technology and Innovation in 2024, while Vikram Vishal was felicitated for being awarded the National Geoscience Award - 2023 in the field of applied geology.

IIT Bombay International Award for excellence in research

Tony QS Quek, IEEE fellow and fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore, was awarded the IIT Bombay International Award for excellence in research in engineering and technology. This award, instituted by Sandeep Naik and Shantanu Rastogi, recognized Quek's contributions to next-generation wireless networks.

Quek holds various positions, including Cheng Tsang Man chair professor, ST Engineering distinguished professor, director of the Future Comms R and D programme, and head of the ISTD Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design.

Teaching and research awards

General Madhuri Kanitkar, the chief guest, presented the Professor SP Sukhatme Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Dr P K Patwardhan Technology Development Award (2023), and the C1973 Research Excellence Award to distinguished faculty members. These awards were given in recognition of their contributions to teaching and research in their respective fields.

Dr PK Patwardhan Technology Development Award (2023) recipients

The Dr PK Patwardhan Technology Development Award (2023) was presented to Manjesh Kumar Hanawal from the department of industrial engineering and operations research for his innovative R and D work on 'Vajra – An Indigenous Tool for Endpoint Security,' and to Rajesh Patkar from the department of biosciences and bioengineering for his research work on 'A bio-stimulant based novel approach for enhanced yield and nutritional value of potato.'
