IIT Delhi, Bombay in top 50 engineering schools: QS Subject Ranking

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is at 44 and IIT Delhi at 47 in the ‘Engineering & Technology’ category of the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings by Subject, 2020 . With a score of 81.4, IIT Delhi is now among the top 50 engineering and technology institutions in the world.
As per the latest rankings announced by the QS, IIT Delhi has moved a massive 14 places from last year’s 61st position, while IIT Bombay has moved nine places from 53rd to 44th.
In a statement on the achievement, IIT Delhi director, V. Ramgopal Rao said: “This is the result of the various measures we have taken in the institute on boosting the research ecosystem on the campus, strengthening our connect with the external stakeholders, significantly enhanced internationalization efforts from the Institute and various other measures initiated in the last three years.”
Rao added that the credit goes to the entire team working tirelessly on these initiatives, faculty, staff and students. He added that “MHRD and alumni of IIT Delhi have played a very constructive role in making this happen.”
“Our students and faculty members are our key strength. It is their dedication and the hard work that have got us where we are today and I am sure that they will take us much further in the near future,” said Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay.
Five institutions from India have been ranked among the top 100 this year, while in 2019 there were three, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IIT Madras. This year IIT Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) is at 86th, IIT Madras (IITM) at 88 and IIT Kanpur (IITK) at 96.
