IIT Delhi, University of Exeter and SAI, launch sports tech, ML and data analytics course for coaches, physios

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has partnered with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and United Kingdom-based University of Exeter, and launched a training programme in sports technology, machine learning and data analytics. The programme is designed for sports coaches, physios, fitness professionals, sports scientists, and entrepreneurs.

The training programme will be conducted at IIT Delhi campus from March 2 to 6. The intensive in-person training and upskilling programme will have advanced technological and analytics tools for sporting performance assessment.

The training will also include enhancement through interventions in nutrition, physiology, biomechanics and Virtual Reality (VR).

“The program emphasizes experiential learning through direct engagement with advanced sports technologies used in contemporary research and high-performance environments,” as per the official statement.

Training on AR, VR, AI in sports part of programme

Faculty members from IIT Delhi, University of Exeter, scientists and practitioners from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and industry professionals from sporting academies will provide training to the participants.

There will be sessions on foundations of sports technology and sensing, nutrition, biosensing and inclusive sports technology, sports wearables and neural technologies, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in sports, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in sports and applied data Science in Sports.

Participants will also be taking part in guided hands-on demonstrations of motion capture and biomechanical modelling, wireless EMG and neuromuscular assessment, wearable sensor technologies, virtual reality–based simulation training, and data analytics and machine learning workflows.

“The sessions will be led by technical partners from the industry, providing participants with skills that can be directly applied in their practice,” the institute said.

Biswarup Mukherjee, coordinator, training programme, IIT Delhi, said: “This unique programme is the first of its kind in the country that brings leading experts from IIT Delhi, University of Exeter and SAI designed to enable participants to move beyond theoretical understanding and develop practical insight into technology-driven approaches for sports performance assessment and enhancement,”
