IIT Gandhinagar to host finale of Singapore-India Hackathon 2023 from July 14 to 16

The student team can win up to 9 lakhs, while the startups can win up to 12 lakhs cash prize in the 3rd edition of hackathon.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN) will host the finale of the third edition of the Singapore-India Hackathon from July 14 to July 16, 2023. The event is currently going on at the IIT Gandhinagar Research Park.

IITGN with the Ministry of Education (MoE); AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), MoE’s Innovation Cell; and NTU Singapore have organized the event.

The Singapore-India Hackathon will showcase the innovation potential of the youth from both countries and provide solutions to various global issues.

The hackathon was announced on March 13, 2023, by union minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan and Singapore’s Minister for trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong in New Delhi. The theme of the event is Fintech and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Sustainability.

According to the institute, the participants will engage in a 36-hour-long intense coding and problem-solving event to develop solutions to challenges faced globally like trade connectivity, financial fraud detection, financial literacy, carbon footprint monitoring, sea level rise and coastal flooding, and food recycling optimization.

A total of 24 Indian students and 24 Singaporean students have been selected to participate in the hackathon. 12 mentors from both countries will guide the participating teams. The student teams, consisting of two students from each country, will compete in Track 1. Additionally, 12 Indian startups and 12 Singaporean startups have been chosen for Track 2, where they will directly address the problem statements.

The winners will receive cash prizes in Singaporean dollars (SGD) and Indian rupees. In Track 1, the team winning the first prize will get SGD 15,000 / Rs 9 lakhs; the second prize will get SGD 10,000 / Rs 6 lakhs, and the third prize will get SGD 7,000 / Rs 4 lakhs. In Track 2, the startup will get SGD 20,000 / Rs 12 lakhs for the first position; SGD 15,000 / Rs 9 lakhs for the second position, and SGD 10,000 / Rs 6 lakhs for the team coming in third position.

“We are happy to host the first-ever India-Singapore Hackathon at IIT Gandhinagar where students and entrepreneurs from the two countries are going to join to showcase their strengths to solve the problems of contemporary times” Rajat Moona, director of IITGN, said.

The grand finale of the Singapore-India Hackathon will conclude on July 16 followed by an award ceremony for the winners. The concluding event will be attended by Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of education, skills development, and entrepreneurship, Government of India, and Lawrence Wong, deputy prime minister and minister for finance, Singapore.
