IIT Gandhinagar to host virtual open house for e-Masters in Data Science on March 17

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT-GN) is organising a virtual open house on March 17, 2024, to raise awareness among students and working professionals about its e-Masters degree programme in data science. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications, catering to students coming from diverse academic and industrial backgrounds.

One of the programme's key aims is to provide students with the essential competences required to enter an employment environment immediately after completing the course. The degree requires a compulsory two-week residency each year to give students with the necessary industry-relevant experiences. During these residencies, students will attend workshops and seminars.

IIT Gandhinagar Data Science e-Masters Programme: Eligibility

To apply for the e-Masters programme's of IIT Gandhinagar, candidates are required to hold a graduate degree in a relevant field, such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, Science, Economics, Commerce with a minimum of 60% marks or 6 CPI. Additionally, candidates must have taken mathematics in Class 12

Selection will be based on academic background, work experience and interview. Gate score are not required for admission.

Course duration

The duration of the e-Masters degree programme in data science is 2 years. There will be four modules. Each module will be for a duration of approximately 14 weeks.

Amit Prashant, dean (Research and Development), IIT Gandhinagar, said, "While this degree programme is designed to be completed in two years, candidates can customise their timeline. Working professionals or full-time students can pace themselves by setting their schedules with the possibility of completing it in 1.5 years or extending it to around 2.5 years. Tailoring the timeline to individual needs will enable students to cope with the rigorous course structure that involves intensive assignments, practicals, and industry projects, all subject to regular evaluation."

Industry projects for real-world experience

Speaking about the other e-Masters programme's of IIT Gandhinagar, Girija Dave, an Industry Professional who is currently enrolled in the programme in Energy Policy and Regulation, said, "The IIT-GN e-Masters programme offers the opportunity to continuously learn, grow and reap benefits from the professionally designed curriculum and engage with Industry experts and peers / other personnel across the industry. The curriculum is curated using interdisciplinary approaches and designed to provide an in-person classroom experience virtually. The rigour necessitated to complete the assignments, and case studies and fulfil the industry-project requirements provided me with real-world experiences, enhancing my understanding and preparing me for the industry challenges ahead."
