IIT Guwahati hosts visionary dialogue with finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati hosted the Viksit Bharat ambassador dialogue today, March 14. The dialogue focused on India's aim to achieve developed nation status by 2047, marking 100 years of independence. Union finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, was the chief guest at the event.

As per the official press release, the event focused on the importance of public participation in making India a developed nation. Discussions during the dialogue highlighted the Northeast region as a driving force for India's development. While addressing the gathering, Nirmala Sitharaman talked about the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Tata Group's 'Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility' in Assam.

From India’s international multimodal logistics park to the inaugural national sports university, the Northeast’s premier ship repair facility, along with the first 'Gati Shakti research chair, the northeastern states have led the charge in groundbreaking initiatives across the nation, she said at the event.

In addition to Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister of Assam, Ajanta Neog, and Hitesh Jain, a member of the core team, Viksit Bharat ambassador, also attended the event.

Addressing the audience, Ajanta Neog, said, “IIT Guwahati has played a pivotal role in enhancing the reputation of Assam, contributing significantly to its positive image. Through collaboration, hard work, and a unity of purpose, we have transformed into a Viksit Assam.”

As per the official press release, the dialogue concluded with an interactive session between Sitharaman and IIT Guwahati students. The discussion underscored the importance of youth empowerment and innovation in propelling India towards its goal of becoming a developed nation. She emphasized the imperative for the younger generation to harness their skills and creativity to drive transformative change.
