NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Guwahati) in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Assam organised a Science and Maths Olympiad. A total of 1.14 lakh students of 3,828 schools of Assam participated in the Olympiad. Chandan Kasuhik Saikia of Namdeuri High School, Jorhat, bagged the first position.

Jnanarun Hazarika of Dhalasatra High School, Jorhat, and Arjun Karki, Hawaipur High School, West Karbi Anglong, grabbed the second and third position, respectively.

The IIT Guwahati said the competition was held to foster scientific curiosity and mathematical proficiency among students in the state. “The contest aimed to nurture talent, promote critical thinking, and enhance problem-solving abilities among the students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects,” the institute said.

The Olympiad comprised two phases. The first phase was an OMR-based physical pen-paper test for secondary school students across Assam. It was designed to assess the students’ understanding and application of scientific and mathematical concepts, followed by a state-level round. The district-level test was conducted on March 18.

2 participants from each district

The top 2 performers from each district were selected to participate in the final round of the Olympiad at IIT Guwahati. This round provided a platform for the finalists to interact with peers from across the state. Held on March 30, the final round saw 62 finalists – 32 female and 30 male – from Classes 9 and 10 competing, with three state winners emerging from the competition.
