IIT Kanpur confers degrees upon 2,127 PhD, PG, UG students
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur also awarded honorary degrees to MC Mary Kom, Devi Prasad Shetty and Natarajan Chandrasekaran.

KANPUR: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK), conferred degrees upon 2,127 students during the 56th convocation ceremony. The IIT Kanpur also conferred the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa), its highest honorary academic degree, upon boxer MC Mary Kom, founder of Narayana Health Devi Prasad Shetty and chairperson of Tata Sons Natarajan Chandrasekaran.
As many as 236 PhD, 15 MTech-PhD, 483 MTech, 739 BTech, 21 MBA, 16 MD, 51 MS, 40 PGPEX-VLFM, one diploma of IIT (DIIT), 151 MSc (two-year course), 18 double major, 125 dual degree, 14 MS-PD (MS part of the dual degree), 149 BS, and 68 online Master students were awarded degrees.
The institute also recognised the performance of students who excelled in various disciplines. Farzan Adil Byramji of the department of computer science and engineering (CSE) was awarded the President's Gold Medal. Ananya Gupta, a student of four-year undergraduate (UG) programme in the department of CSE, was awarded the Director's Gold Medal. Lakshay Rastogi, a student of the five-year UG program, from the department of biological sciences and bioengineering got the Director's Gold Medal.
Nandita Gupta from the department of materials science and engineering received the Ratan Swarup Memorial Prize while Vineeth V of the department of electrical engineering was awarded the prestigious Shankar Dayal Sharma Medal.
Radhakrishnan K Koppillil, chairperson of the board of governors (BoG), IIT Kanpur , presided over the ceremony while NR Narayana Murthy, founder and chairman emeritus, Infosys, graced as the chief guest.
Murthy, who is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, said, “As I stand here, reminiscing about my cherished days at IITK, I am reminded of the profound responsibility we bear as educated citizens of our great nation. Just as our founding fathers envisioned, we must rise above affiliations and embrace our role as Indians first. Let us build a ‘mahaan’ (great) India, where every child has access to education, healthcare, and opportunity.
