The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) has launched online executive programmes in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning and Tech Leadership for working professionals. The online certificate courses have been designed to equip engineers and technology professionals with end-to-end, production-ready AI capabilities.
Software engineers, ML practitioners, and technical leaders with prior experience in AI or digital systems, as well as mid-to-senior and above professionals in business, strategy, and technology-adjacent roles can apply for the online courses through IIT Kharagpur’s official website at online.iitkgp.ac.in.
The hybrid-mode online programmes launched by the technology institute , which is ranked 5th in the NIRF 2025 engineering category, includes four advanced executive courses.

These include specialisation in executive post graduate certificate in generative AI and agentic AI and AI-native software engineering, both offered by the department of computer science and engineering.
While, other programmes are based on executive post graduate certificates in applied AI and machine learning and executive programmes in technology and AI leadership.
Explaining the score of AI in engineering courses, Suman Chakraborty, director, IIT Kharagpur, said: “Innovations are happening at an unmatched pace, and the scale at which fields like artificial intelligence are advancing require us to reach experienced professionals beyond the physical campus.”
“This initiative reflects IIT Kharagpur’s long-standing emphasis on engineering discipline, building systems that work at scale, under real constraints, for real users. It is designed for practitioners who seek true capability, not just exposure, and who want to take AI systems all the way from idea to dependable deployment,” Chakraborty added.
The online certifications are equipped with insights from real workforce needs and target engineers and technology professionals seeking practical, job-relevant skills in Generative AI, LLMs, and agent-based systems, with a clear emphasis on real-world applications rather than purely theoretical learning, IIT Kharagpur said in an official press release.
The classes will be held in a live online set-up by IIT Kharagpur faculty, it said. In addition, the institute has planned to launch additional programmes in collaboration with upGrad over the next 3 to 6 months.
“The curriculum draws directly from the institute’s active research ecosystem, with faculty publishing in leading global conferences such as ICML, NeurIPS, ACL, ICCV, and IEEE journals,” the institute said.
