IIT Kharagpur PhD rolling admission process open across multiple disciplines; candidates can apply online throughout the year under various categories
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has opened applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) courses across disciplines, on a rolling admission process that allows candidates to apply throughout the year. Candidates can apply at IIT Kharagpur’s official website iitkgp.ac.in
The institute is accepting applications under multiple categories, including Regular with Institute Assistantship, Individual Fellowships such as CSIR, UGC, DBT, ICMR and INSPIRE, Sponsored candidates, and Working Professionals.
IIT Kharagpur has also announced the Director’s Platinum Jubilee Excellence PhD Fellowship (DPEF) for GATE 2026 candidates. Applicants securing ranks among the top 50 in GATE 2026 and opting to pursue their PhD at the institute will be eligible for this fellowship. Selected candidates will receive Rs 80,000 per month for the first two years and Rs 90,000 per month for the following three years, subject to meeting admission criteria.
IIT Kharagpur PhD Courses
As per IIT Kharagpur official website, PhD courses are available across a wide range of fields, including engineering, technology, science, architecture and regional planning, humanities and social sciences, rural development, law, public policy, management, and medicine. Admissions for reserved categories will be carried out in accordance with Government of India norms.
As per the institute, applications will be processed at least once every quarter by the respective academic units, and any pending applications will remain valid for consideration in the subsequent quarter. Candidates have been advised to carefully review the eligibility criteria outlined in the official information brochure before applying, as applications will be shortlisted based on the details submitted online.
The institute has cautioned that any incorrect or false information provided during the application process will lead to cancellation of candidature. Candidates are also advised to submit only one application, as duplicate submissions will be rejected without refund.
