IIT Kharagpur, TCS launch research centre for innovation in digital health, robotics and intelligent systems

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have partnered to set up an advanced research centre. As per the institute, the centre will focus on digital health, robotics, and intelligent systems. The centre will feature three laboratories including sensing and communications, edge computing and analytics, and robotics and visual computing.

Over 150 TCS scientists will work at the centre, using state-of-the-art equipment to research edge computing, embedded systems, and artificial intelligence. The centre will host TCS-funded research programmes in partnership with academic institutions, including IIT KGP.

It will also have a customer experience centre where TCS clients across industries such as mining, agriculture, mobility, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail can gain exclusive experience of original research concepts by TCS. The center will host workshops for external participants, involving TCS scientists, industry experts, and IIT KGP faculty to address industry challenges.

Speaking about the partnership, the director of IIT Kharagpur, Virendra Kumar Tewari, said, “This partnership represents a significant leap forward in harnessing cutting-edge technologies to address some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare and automation. By combining IIT Kharagpur’s world-class research capabilities with TCS’s industry-leading expertise, we aim to drive transformative innovations that can enhance quality of life, improve healthcare delivery, and contribute to the growing field of intelligent systems.”
