IIT Madras invites applications for Stockholm Junior Water Prize; apply till April 30
Top 25 teams in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize will get the chance to exhibit their projects at IIT Madras.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched a water challenge ‘Stockholm Junior Water Prize’ for school students in Classes 9 to 12. Students who want to participate in the inaugural edition of the competition can fill the application form and submit project documentation on the official website, sjwpindia.in, by April 30
This competition will be hosted by the sustainability venture studio at the School of Sustainability, IIT Madras, in partnership with Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). It is sponsored by Aquamap - Center for Water Management and Policy, IIT Madras.
Top 10 teams will be honoured with the National Water Champions Award while the top 25 teams will get the chance to exhibit their projects at IIT Madras. Each of the top 25 teams will undergo training in presentation skills and receive certificates from SJWP India and IIT Madras. Recognition will also be given to schools demonstrating commitment to water and environmental concerns.

Indumathi M Nambi, professor of environmental engineering, IIT Madras, said, “The need for Innovations in the water domain should be seeded in the minds of students at a very young age. When they prepare and participate in such programs, it exposes them to the larger challenges faced by society, gives them the confidence that they can make a difference and opens the door to career choices in these domains.”
The competition focuses on projects addressing global water challenges, including water pollution, unequal access to clean water and sanitation, water scarcity, high groundwater stress, agricultural water use, water governance and and management, and ecosystem degradation.
