IIT Madras launches PG Diploma for fresh graduates, working professionals

Aspirants can apply till May 2025 on iitm.ac.in, classes will start from August or September. Well-performing candidates may upgrade to MTech.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched a new Postgraduate Diploma programme for upskilling fresh graduates and working professionals in emerging technologies.

The applications are open and interested candidates can apply on code.iitm.ac.in/webmtech, till May 2025. The PG Diploma admissions will be conducted through an entrance exam, which is scheduled for July 13, 2025. IIT Madras will start classes for the new programme from August or September 2025.

The one-of-its-kind PG Diploma provides a flexible learning environment with live online classes in the evenings or on weekends. Learners will also get access to recorded sessions, helping them to continue their full-time jobs or internships while gaining academic experience.

The course will offer specialisations in aerospace engineering (aerospace engineering, ammunition technology), artificial intelligence, electrical engineering (integrated circuits, communication & signal processing, multimedia, microelectronics), mechanical engineering (mechanical design, automotive technology), engineering design (e-mobility) and process safety.

MTech from IIT Madras

The institute informed that the candidates who perform well in the PG Diploma programme may get the opportunity to upgrade to a web-enabled MTech degree for a deeper expertise and a master’s degree from IIT Madras.

Among the other highlights of the IIT Madras PG Diploma are hands-on projects and interim assessments via remote proctoring, options to visit IIT Madras for lab sessions (where applicable). The final exams will be conducted at designated centers across India.

Speaking about the new programme, professor Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Associate Chair, Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), IIT Madras, said, “We are addressing the growing need for flexible, industry-relevant technical education that caters to the evolving aspirations of young graduates and working professionals. This program enables students to continue their learning journey without putting their careers on hold.”
