IIT Madras has been ranked as the number 1 college in India, as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) published by the ministry of education. It also is the best college under the engineering category. Aspirants desirous of pursuing MTech courses from an IIT can check the selection process and cut-off trends of last three years to know the admission chances.
For MTech courses, IIT-M offers financial assistance to Indian nationals in the form of half-time teaching assistantship (HTTA) at the rate of Rs 12,400 per month, for a maximum period of 2 years. Selected students are required to assist the department for 8 hours per week.
Government organizations such as Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Aeronautical Research and Development Board, and others also provide a few assistantships to MTech students. A few seats are also available without HTTA, ie. without financial assistance. However, the eligibility criteria for both categories are the same.
