IITM's contest 'Cricket or Coding' will accept applications to build AI, ML models to predict IPL power plays and scores based on past performance.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), bachelor of science (BS) in data science and applications degree along with the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) has launched a contest to develop artificial intelligence and machine learning models based on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches.
The contest, 'Cricket or Coding' has invited applications from data scientists and enthusiasts to analyze data for IPL cricket matches to build such models till April 13, 2023. Interested participants can apply at the IIMT official website- iitm.ac.in. Using the data given, the participants are to generate predictions on power play scores made by teams for the upcoming IPL matches. The contest will run throughout the IPL 2023 season. Participants will earn points based on the difference between the predicted and actual scores. After the IPL finals, the top-performing participants with the most points will be awarded with prizes and recognition during the annual techno-cultural event of the IIT Madras BS program - Paradox ’23.
In addition to this, the contest also offers an opportunity for non-coders with a non-competitive event, 'Guess the score'.
Highlighting the key objectives behind this contest, IIT Madras, BS in data science and applications and NPTEL, professor, Andrew Thangaraj, said: “We are excited to launch this contest, which brings together the worlds of sports and data science. With the growing popularity of IPL and data science, we believe this contest will provide data science learners with an opportunity to apply their analytics skills to an existing domain.”
