IIT Madras Placements 2023-24: More than 55% of the placed students were from socially and economically weaker backgrounds.
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has concluded its phase I placement in December 2023. The first day of IIT Madras placements 2023 saw a huge number of offers, creating a record for IIT-Madras.
The IIT placement 2023-24 phase 1 officially started on December 1. There was a large increase in hiring from the core sector towards the end of the first round of IIT-Madras placements.
IIT Madras has placed so far about 50% of the students. This year more than 55% of the placed students were from socially and economically weaker backgrounds.
A big increase in overseas offers for postgraduate students were also witnessed as compared to previous year. The median salary offered by the firms in phase I of IIT-Madras placements 2023 was over Rs 19 lakh.

According to the IIT- Madras press release, the placement process was carried out with equity and inclusivity.
This year, IIT Madras recorded a 19 percent increase in internship offers on the first day of campus internship drive for students of 2023-24 batch. The internship drive was conducted on August 5 and August 12. Students received 19 international internship offers from seven foreign companies.
The number of students who received internships increased by 17%, while the number of firms that visited the campus increased by 51%.
Texas Instruments, JP Morgan Chase and Co, Adobe, Procter and Gamble, and Dr Reddy's Laboratories were among the major recruiters who took part in the internship drive.
