IIT Mandi invites applications for MA in development studies

The IIT Mandi will conduct the written test for admission to MA in development studies with specialisation in the Himalayan Region, tentatively from April 21. Selected candidates will also have an option to opt for MA + PhD dual degree.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Mandi’s (IIT Mandi) school of humanities and social sciences is inviting applications for its MA programme in development studies. The two-year postgraduate (PG) course is designed to offer students with knowledge on opportunities and challenges of the Himalayan region.

Eligible candidates can apply for the MA programme through the official website at iitmandiadm.samarth.edu.in, before April 11. The institute will conduct the written test tentatively from April 21 to 25 and the interview could be conducted from April 26 to 29.

The IIT Mandi will declare the list of selected candidates tentatively on April 15.

The curriculum of the PG programme includes theoretical knowledge with practical research and fieldwork, which will be aimed at promoting local, regional, and international issues linked with development, sustainability, and empowerment in the Himalayan belt, as per the official statement.

Surya Prakash Upadhyay, chairperson, the school of humanities and social science, IIT Mandi, said: “MA in Development Studies is a unique program, designed with a special focus on the Himalayan region. This two-year program provides an opportunity for students to conduct research on various aspects of the Himalayan region while providing developmental and practical work along with actual studies in the Himalayan regions, which have both local, regional and global relevance. Additionally, the course also offers candidates an option to apply for an M.A.+ Ph.D. Dual Degree at IIT Mandi, which offers a seamless transition into advanced research."

Notably, selected students will be able to opt for the MA + PhD dual degree to further enhance their research skills in the subject, the institute said.

IIT Mandi MA Programme in Development Studies: Eligibility, selection process

Students should have a graduate degree from a recognised institute with 55% marks or CGPA of 6.0 in graduation. For candidates, belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer (NCL), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), must have 50% marks and 5.5 CGPA in graduate.

Applicants will be selected through a written test and a personal interview round and the list of selected candidates will be declared on the official website of IIT Mandi at iitmandi.ac.in.
